The ACPF is providing a submission in response to the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment’s “Review of the biosecurity risks of prawns imported from all countries for human consumption”.
Whilst the department has made some welcome changes such as moving marinated prawns to the uncooked category and requiring par-cooking for breaded, battered and crumbed prawns, the proposed protocols still rely on previously failed border inspection and testing, and ineffective labelling for prawns sold at retail ‘not to be used as bait or feed for aquatic animals’.
